Wintery conditions increase the risk of slips and falls outdoors, leading to potentially serious and life-changing injuries.  On a national scale, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) report that 31% of all non-fatal injuries are caused as a result of slips, trips or falls on the same floor level.

If all graffiti could be as artistic as Banksy, people might not have such a problem with it.  Unfortunately, a lot of graffiti is rude, unsettling or just unsightly and it is something that should be abolished.  Graffiti can ruin the family friendly feel of villages or the feeling of safety in cities and is associated with crime and bad behaviour.

The cost of vandalism…

Beyond this, vandalism can destroy personal, company and local government property.  Even if the attacked item is not destroyed, it nonetheless is very inconvenient and costly to remove.  Network Rail spends approximately £5million per year cleaning up graffiti, while the London Underground spends close to a staggering £10million per year, proving that vandalism is a huge problem. Markings that obscure the purpose of the sign can be dangerous so it is essential that the messages of road signs or warnings are clear to the public.

Extend the life of your signs…

Keen to offer products that are suitable for all applications, Stocksigns can also apply a protective overlay film (POF) on the majority of standard signs to extend the lifespan by up to 3 years. These are commonly used on construction sites and around local communities as the POF creates a surface which can be easily cleaned to rid graffiti with the use of specialist graffiti remover or just a simple microfiber cloth and water or acetone.

The Merstham Mix, a new ‘not for profit’ café based in the Merstham Community Hub, has been given a fresh look due to signage donated by local sign company, Stocksigns Ltd.

The café, located on Portland Road, opened its doors late last year with the aim of  bringing the local community together, while providing healthy and affordable meals, using ingredients donated from local supermarkets and food producers.

Stocksigns Project Manager David Cload explains how they came to be involved. “When Stocksigns were contacted and asked to support the project, we were more than happy to help. It’s a very worthwhile scheme and as a local business we are pleased to be able to support such initiatives. Not only that, but the café has now become a lunchtime favourite of the Stocksigns staff!”

The company provided an array of branded internal signs, window stickers and displays in the vibrant café colours.

This Friday we start our epic Three Peaks Challenge! This involves climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours. We are raising money for our partner agency RoSPA’s  (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Brighter Beginnings campaign. This was launched as part of their centenary celebration after discovering that a third of parents felt they didn’t have enough information to protect their children . The appeal has already seen the launch of:

  •           A Parent Hub – with helpful information to keep children safe
  •           A freephone helpline –  providing 24 hour support on the phone and over email

As accidents continue to be the biggest killer of children and young people under 19 the work the carry out  is invaluable.

The challenge begins in Scotland on Friday 23rd with our ascent up Ben Nevis at 4pm. The peak is the highest in the UK at 4, 411.18ft! We then descend at pace before cramming back into our mini bus and head south to England.

Next up is Scafell Pike, we start our ascent in darkness at the cringingly early time of 2.30am on Saturday! This mountain is the smallest but is the most technical in parts which will test our head torch navigation skills to the max! We then descend and make our way to Wales.

Finishing up with our 3rd and final Mountain, Snowdon, we aim to have completed the descent by 3pm no doubt exhausted!
